The Yobe State Government has stressed the need for its citizens to participate actively in the recently reintroduced voter registration, especially those who have attained 18 years of age so as to exercise their franchise during elections.

The Commissioner for Religious and Ethical Reorientation, Yusuf Umar Potiskum disclosed this at the awareness campaign for Almajiris and Tsangaya Ulamas held at Federal Polytechnic Damaturu in Yobe State.

“As part of the efforts to promote the wellbeing of Almajiris and Tsangaya Ulamas, Governor Buni’s administration has come up with various policies and programs to enhance their livelihoods”

“The State Arabic and Islamic education board, the state government has provided a lot of interventions to promote the Tsangaya system of education as well as the welfare of Almajiris and the proprietors of the Tsangaya schools in the state” he said.

In his remarks, the Executive Secretary State Arabic and Islamic Education Board, Dr Umar Abubakar commended the state government under the leadership of Governor Mai Mala Buni for it’s commitment towards promoting Arabic and Islamic education in the state.

According to him, the state government through the board has made giant strides in the promotion of Arabic and Islamic education in the state, “Buni’s administration has sponsored many Tsangaya students to study in Morocco, Misra and other countries”.

The Executive secretary therefore, urged the Tsangaya Ulamas to always support government laudable policies and programs to bring the much needed transformation in the Tsangaya system of education in the state.

Also speaking, the Tsangaya Coordinator and the Chairman Association of Tsangaya Schools in Yobe state, Mallam Usman Lawn and Goni Modu Aisami reaffirmed their commitment and support towards the ongoing voter registration exercise in the state.

They assured that all the eligible Almajiris and members of their families who have not registered would do so immediately.

Highpoint of the event included the distribution of hygiene kits provided by Rural water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASA) in collaboration with United Nations Children Education Fund (UNICEF).
