Youths Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) has expressed shock over the death of Super Eagles goalkeeper, Peter Rufai, describing his demise as a great loss to Nigerian football.

Rufai, popularly known as Dodo Mayana during his illustrious career that took him to Belgium, Netherlands, Portugal and Spain, died on Thursday, July, 3, 2025 at the age of 61 years.

In his condolence message, National President of YSFON, Dr. Yusuf Gawuna said that the entire body is saddened that Rufai who is a YSFON ambassador would die when his services are well needed.

” It’s very unfortunate that we lost Peter Rufai who has been a role model to many young players at a time when his services is highly needed. During his life time, he was a YSFON ambassador who discharged his role creditably well and his demise will be felt by the country’s football family.

Gawuna who also doubles as the Chairman of Federal Mortgage Bank prayed that God will grant his soul eternal rest and his family, the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss.

In his own message, the National Secretary, Patrick Okpavuerhe expressed regrets that Rufai could not live long to enjoy the fruits of his labour but was quick to add that we have to give God glory for what he achieved during his sojourn on earth even as he prayed for his soul to have eternal rest.
