Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) has joined millions of Nigerians in paying glowing tributes to late Nigerian former President, Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as one of the greatest supporters of grassroots sports in the country.

President Buhari who ruled both as a Military Head of State from 1983 to 1985 and Civilian President from 2015 to 2023 died last Sunday in a London Hospital at the age of 82 and was buried onTuesday in his home town, Daura, Katsina State according to Islamic rites

In a condolence message by the Federation personally signed by it’s National President Dr. Nasiru Gawuna, it noted that President Muhammadu Buhari was a symbol of discipline and public service; saying that his belief in youth empowerment and national unity inspired many, including those in the sports sector.

” It’s on record that under his leadership, sports became a strategic tool for diplomacy, economic development, and youth engagement and indeed one of his last act in office on May 28 2023 was signing the National Sports Commission Act 2023 into law

‘Also under his Presidency, the Super Falcons maintained their supremacy, winning the Africa Women Cup of Nations in 2016 and 2018 and Nigeria further solidified its position as a continental football superpower in 2018 by hosting a FIFA Executive Football Summit,” noted Gawuna who was the former Deputy Governor of Kano State

The YSFON boss who’s presently the Chairman of Federal Mortgage Bank while praying God to grant his soul eternal rest, prayed that Almighty Allah will give his family and Nigeria the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss
