Alhaji Usman Nahuche, the Executive Chairman Zamfara Persons With Disability Board has said that establishment of the board by Gov Dauda Lawal will provide various opportunities to special needs community in the state.

Nahuche, a retired Permanent Secretary from the state civil service, stated this at a press briefing in Gusau on Saturday.

The Zamfara State Governor, Dr Dauda Lawal recently approved the establishment of the Persons With Disability Board in the state following the recent amendment of the State law designed to safeguard the rights of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).

Nahuche a member of the Deaf Cluster, described establishment of the board as a welcome development that will enhance future of disabled community in the state.

According to him, the board will protect PWDs from any form of discrimination, and promote equal access to opportunities in every aspect of society.

“I believe, the board has the responsibility for promoting and protecting the rights and future of persons with disabilities.

“As we all know, the disability is not a liability.

“We want to use this opportunity to proven to the society that we are not liabilities, infact we are assets to the society,” he said.

“We are going to use this opportunity to have have all the data of persons with disabilities in the state.

“We are going to work towards addressing major challenges affecting members of disabled community in the state.

“We are going to give priorities to addressing education gaps and stigma as major challenges affecting our members,” he said.

He noted that, the two major challenges of lack of education and stigma are really affecting development of disabled community in the state.

“I believe this board came at the right time to address such challenges.

“We are going to use this opportunity to promote various opportunities and capabilities to promote future of our members.,” he added.

Nahuche commended Gov Dauda Lawal for establishing of the board inline with the provisions contained in the State Disability Law.

“Our appreciation also goes to the Speaker State House of Assembly and Members of the house for passage of the bill before it was forwarded to the governor for his assent.

“We also appreciate the effort of Secretary to the State Government, Malam Abubakar Nakwada, Chief of Staff Government House, Hon Mukhtar Lugga And Speaker Zamfara State House of Assembly.

“We also appreciate effort of relevant MDAs, NGOs, CSOs, development partners, and the Media among other stakeholders who contributed to the successful establishment of the board.

“Our appreciation also goes to the former lawmaker, Salisu Zurmi, a member of the disabled family in the state who initiated the disability bill in the 6th state house of assembly of the state”, he explained.

Nahuche sought all stakeholders’ support for the success of the board in the state.
